Dallas Cowboys

Sanders is the plan now, and the Cowboys grade out a D-.

There is reaching, and then there is Ricky White III at pick 122. The Cowboys jumped the board by 64 and dared it to prove them wrong. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. So much rides on Shedeur Sanders that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. However the rest shakes out, Ransom at that price is a win they earned.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.7 · Pick 7 · Shedeur Sanders · QB · rank 14
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.8 · Pick 8 · Tetairoa McMillan · WR · rank 12
In pick 8 they get a true top target at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.17 · Pick 17 · Ollie Gordon II · RB · rank 26
In the 17th overall pick they get a centerpiece for the ground game, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
R1.24 · Pick 24 · Ashton Gillotte · DE-EDGE · rank 35
Ashton Gillotte at slot 24 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Ajani Cornelius · OT · rank 58
Ajani Cornelius in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Tyleik Williams · DT · rank 32
Tyleik Williams at pick No. 49 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Parker Brailsford · C · rank 71
Parker Brailsford in the Round 2 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.26 · Pick 122 · Ricky White III · WR · rank 186
Ricky White III in pick 122 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.26 · Pick 154 · Thor Griffith · DT · rank 191
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Thor Griffith. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.26 · Pick 186 · Lathan Ransom · S · rank 162
A safety of that caliber at the 186th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
