The rest of the league had time to spare on Jackson Woodard; the Patriots did not wait, grabbing him 108 spots ahead at pick 222.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Getting Trapilo where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a featured back. A clean fit for the roster.
They took Tyleik Williams at par in the 38th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Tate Ratledge went about where he belonged in the 69th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A real head-scratcher, Jaylin Noel in the Round 3 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ozzy Trapilo in slot 105 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
KeAndre Lambert-Smith at Round 5, Pick 6 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Andrew Armstrong well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached a country mile for Jackson Woodard at the 222nd pick, and the board is aghast. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Ben Yurosek at Round 7, Pick 22 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
