After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. Bo Nix is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Getting Jones where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Byron Murphy II went about where he belonged in No. 42. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cooper Beebe slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 24 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tykee Smith in pick No. 108 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Max Melton was still sitting there in the 130th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They paid sticker price for Ty'Ron Hopper in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A straight-up fair deal on LaDarius Henderson at the 160th pick, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Justin Rogers at slot 165 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Jaylen Wright at the 179th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Myles Jones still on the board at No. 230. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
