You could see the war room lean forward. Blake Watson at slot 252 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The Giants clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Bottom line, with Xavier Legette leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
By-the-book stuff, J.J. McCarthy at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Matt Goncalves in No. 107 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 143 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Michael Barrett at par in the 185th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Somehow Blake Watson was still sitting there in the 252nd pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
