The Steelers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jake Golday, the No. 58 name on the board, in Round 3, Pick 21. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart. The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Dillon Thieneman in slot 53 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Anthony Hill Jr. at pick No. 54 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Jake Golday still on the board at Round 3, Pick 21. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Dontay Corleone reach the 86th overall pick and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taylen Green at No. 204 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Thaddeus Dixon at the 224th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Zavion Thomas is a better player than pick 230 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Miles Kitselman here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
