The 49ers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Le'Veon Moss at No. 133 regardless, 70 picks early. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
If Zion Young and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 27 they get a double-digit-sack hope, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
They liked Malachi Lawrence enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 2, Pick 26. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid up for Dametrious Crownover at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Le'Veon Moss at slot 133 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Malik Benson in pick 138, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Bryce Boettcher at No. 147, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jadon Canady at the 209th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
