The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Barton. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
Drake Maye in the Round 1 slot is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Bralen Trice in No. 36, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They went early on Kingsley Suamataia in Round 2, Pick 8, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Graham Barton at slot 67 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Blake Fisher at the 101st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach for Sataoa Laumea in pick No. 113; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cam Hart in the 138th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Theo Johnson at pick 147, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Curtis Jacobs at par in slot 181, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jha'Quan Jackson at pick No. 220 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
