The Eagles put a flag in the ground for Michael Barrett, 39 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
They have staked the next five years on Michael Penix Jr., which is the only story that really matters here. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They banked enough surplus on Jones to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and wide receiver is still a hole.

In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a franchise quarterback, and a steal at that.
Nice patience on Byron Murphy II, who had no business lasting to No. 31. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Chris Braswell at the 50th overall pick is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick 53 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Steal is underselling it; Jaylen Wright at the 97th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy bit of business in slot 160, where Tykee Smith graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They robbed the room for Christian Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
AJ Barner in the 171st pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Michael Barrett at pick 178 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Josh Proctor. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Josh Wallace in the 240th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
