When a board-topper like Trevor Etienne slides to the 240th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Jones Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Warren in pick 38 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Jihaad Campbell at the Round 2 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Isaiah Bond slipping to No. 69 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ozzy Trapilo in slot 77 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value with a capital V on Denzel Burke in the 105th pick, a genuine coup. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Emery Jones Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Hollin Pierce in the 113th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ty Robinson at the 145th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Trevor Etienne was still sitting there in No. 240, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
