The Josh Cameron pick is the one that will follow the Commanders into the fall. They took him 37 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. Need was not the driver here.
Fair-plus on A.J. Haulcy, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They paid sticker price for Mike Washington Jr. in slot 71, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Josh Cameron in Round 5, Pick 7 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jadon Canady in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Xavier Nwankpa in pick No. 204, miles early. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Kendrick Law at pick 209 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Owen Heinecke in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
