The Bears clearly saw something nobody else did in DJ Harvey, taking him 38 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Lane. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took Caleb Tiernan at par in the 57th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Michael Taaffe at the 60th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Billy Schrauth at pick 89 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ja'Kobi Lane in Round 4, Pick 29 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
DJ Harvey at No. 239 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Landon Robinson at pick No. 241 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
