The tape said wait; the Chargers did not. Vincent Anthony Jr. went at the 204th pick, a good 36 picks before the board was ready.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a disruptive interior force at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Gennings Dunker at the 55th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Zakee Wheatley in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They took Will Lee III at par in No. 123, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Vincent Anthony Jr. at pick No. 204 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
