The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Travis Burke slide 36 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. They will need Virgil to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 7 they get a lead back with juice at fair value. A real need, handled.
They read the board right and Jake Golday was the payoff at pick 71. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Reggie Virgil. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value said wait; Quintayvious Hutchins in slot 187 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Travis Burke all the way to Round 6, Pick 28, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A big swing on Lander Barton at the 223rd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A minor itch, scratched.
