Detroit Lions

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Lions and Allar: B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Drew Allar at slot 205 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

The cost of the Gill-Howard reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Spencer Fano · OT · rank 9
Fair-plus on Spencer Fano, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · LT Overton · DE-EDGE · rank 67
They paid up for LT Overton at pick 50 when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Skyler Gill-Howard · DT · rank 152
They reached a country mile for Skyler Gill-Howard at Round 4, Pick 28, and the board is aghast. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.17 · Pick 157 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 179
Value said wait; Domani Jackson in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.41 · Pick 181 · CJ Daniels · WR · rank 144
They robbed the room for CJ Daniels here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.24 · Pick 205 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 157
Somehow Drew Allar was still sitting there in the 205th overall pick, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.32 · Pick 213 · Tanner Koziol · TE · rank 167
Tanner Koziol at pick No. 213 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.6 · Pick 222 · Xavier Nwankpa · S · rank 246
They reached into another round for Xavier Nwankpa, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
