Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Chase Roberts, the No. 219 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 255th overall pick. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.
The Llewellyn reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick-by-Pick
They did well to land D'Angelo Ponds in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jake Slaughter at pick 64 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Domonique Orange, who had no business lasting to the 84th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Max Llewellyn in No. 120, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Kage Casey in slot 160; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
A premium they did not need to pay, Justin Jefferson a notch or two before his time. A minor itch, scratched.
A quiet steal in the 236th pick: Bryson Eason for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
