It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jaydn Ott in slot 173, a good 74 spots before the room expected him.
That Endries pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 14 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Sam Hecht in pick 80 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jalon Kilgore at slot 115 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Jack Endries still on the board at the 162nd pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaydn Ott this early at the 173rd overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled Chris McClellan all the way to pick No. 174, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jeremiah Wright at the 211th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Tyren Montgomery here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
Value said wait; Deven Eastern in the 253rd pick says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
