When a board-topper like Joe Royer slides to Round 5, Pick 32, you do not overthink it, and the Saints did not.
The Taylor reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th overall pick they get a problem off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Chris Brazzell II at pick No. 36 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A quiet steal in pick 132: Carson Beck for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
They jumped the gun on Tim Keenan III, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A big swing on J'Mari Taylor at Round 5, Pick 10, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Joe Royer at slot 172 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Rayshaun Benny at the 190th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
