The tape said wait; the Vikings did not. Seth McGowan went at the 97th overall pick, a good 90 picks before the board was ready.
The Moore pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a two-high chess piece, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They let Chris Johnson come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 17. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A big swing on Darrell Jackson Jr. at the 82nd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Taurean York in the 96th pick, miles early. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Seth McGowan at pick No. 97 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They will replay Louis Moore at pick 196 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Josh Moten at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
