New England Patriots

The Patriots let Beebe fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Patriots were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.

Beebe at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The Wright reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.30 · Pick 30 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 40
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 47
Patrick Paul at pick 34 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 50
A straight-up fair deal on Graham Barton at the 48th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.30 · Pick 62 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 67
Brenden Rice in No. 62 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 92
A wild overpay on Bucky Irving in slot 68, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.30 · Pick 93 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 79
They read the board right and Roman Wilson was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 30. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 75
Cooper Beebe in No. 104 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 145
A reach on Ben Sinnott in pick 131; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.36 · Pick 136 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 161
Jaylen Wright at Round 4, Pick 36 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 169
A slide stopped in pick No. 182, with Joe Milton III worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.36 · Pick 211 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 209
They took Jared Wiley at par in slot 211, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.9 · Pick 229 · JD Bertrand · LB · rank 201
Circle this one: JD Bertrand at the 229th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
