Somebody in pick 125 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Blake Fisher, the No. 99 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They will need Ceaser to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Taliese Fuaga slipping to the 25th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A quiet steal in the Round 2 slot: Xavier Legette for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
The board had T.J. Tampa higher than pick 57, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They read the board right and Blake Corum was the payoff at pick No. 88. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nelson Ceaser in the 92nd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Blake Fisher in Round 4, Pick 25 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cedric Gray in No. 135 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 203 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nice patience on Omar Speights, who had no business lasting to pick 217. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They let Kenny Logan Jr. come to them and pounced at pick No. 219. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Phil Jurkovec at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
