Washington Commanders

The Commanders cashed the board's mistake on Cameron: C.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Commanders were there to profit. Josh Cameron, the No. 191 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 223.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

So much rides on Kayden McDonald that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · Kayden McDonald · DT · rank 18
In the 28th overall pick they get a disruptive interior force, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 27
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dillon Thieneman at slot 38 is the proof. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Anthony Hill Jr. · LB · rank 39
Anthony Hill Jr. at pick 59 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Germie Bernard · WR · rank 62
A reasonable price with a little left over, Germie Bernard in Round 3, Pick 1. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Elijah Sarratt · WR · rank 77
Elijah Sarratt in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Davison Igbinosun · CB · rank 80
Taking Davison Igbinosun in No. 109 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.13 · Pick 113 · Brian Parker II · C · rank 110
Nothing to complain about; Brian Parker II went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.8 · Pick 148 · DeMonte Capehart · DT · rank 138
A slide stopped in the 148th pick, with DeMonte Capehart worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.29 · Pick 169 · Nate Boerkircher · TE · rank 164
Fair-plus on Nate Boerkircher, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.6 · Pick 187 · Travis Burke · OT · rank 174
They read the board right and Travis Burke was the payoff at the 187th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.28 · Pick 209 · Ephesians Prysock · CB · rank 192
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ephesians Prysock at slot 209. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.33 · Pick 214 · Kaelon Black · RB · rank 227
They went early on Kaelon Black in pick No. 214, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
R7.7 · Pick 223 · Josh Cameron · WR · rank 191
Josh Cameron in pick 223 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
