Priorities are a choice, and the Giants made a strange one, taking Cade Stover at TE-EDGE in the 93rd pick with quarterback crying out for the pick instead. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Getting Phillips where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at par in slot 39, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Chris Braswell in pick No. 62 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Christian Haynes in the 70th pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE and leaves quarterback untouched.
Leonard Taylor III in Round 4, Pick 7 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
James Williams at the 130th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Will Shipley went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Ben Sinnott in pick 143; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They read the board right and Andru Phillips was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 10. The roster fit checks out.
