Whoever sat across the table from the Commanders should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while quarterback and interior defensive lineman went begging. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Reaching for Williams left real value on the table behind him. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jones.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
Olumuyiwa Fashanu at slot 9 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Morgan at the 27th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Chop Robinson in pick No. 36 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
They liked Jackson Powers-Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 2, Pick 7. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 40 with a little surplus value in Bralen Trice. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach for Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback and interior defensive lineman to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
Ray Davis in pick 103 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jarrian Jones slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 2 is lovely value for the cornerback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Ben Sinnott in the 140th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They jumped the gun on Isaiah Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brevyn Spann-Ford. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
