Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Devontez Walker got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at Round 6, Pick 10.
The Wilson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Laiatu Latu at Round 1, Pick 12 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kamari Lassiter in the 36th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jordan Morgan in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Kalen King at No. 44, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Payton Wilson at pick 71 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid sticker price for Bucky Irving in slot 100, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They did well to land Graham Barton in pick No. 107, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dallin Holker at the 144th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Devontez Walker at No. 185 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, Omar Speights in the Round 6 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A premium they did not need to pay, Taulia Tagovailoa a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
