For all the boxes ticked, the Commanders skipped the loudest one: wide receiver is exactly as bare as it was. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
On value alone, Roberts makes the weekend a net positive. Tight end was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 4 they get a mismatch in the passing game. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Amarius Mims in the 36th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Terrion Arnold at the 37th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jack Sawyer in Round 3, Pick 4 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Kiran Amegadjie went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tommy Eichenberg in No. 104 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
The board had Smael Mondon Jr. higher than the 141st overall pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Somehow Ashton Gillotte was still sitting there in pick No. 182, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Circle this one: Willie Roberts at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
