The board owed the Commanders one, and it paid up: D'Angelo Ponds, the No. 47 name on the board, sitting there at slot 71 like a gift left on the doorstep. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Circle this one: D'Angelo Ponds at the 71st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 7 with a little surplus value in CJ Daniels. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Taylen Green at pick 187 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Keyshaun Elliott in No. 209 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
