This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jeffrey Bassa, the No. 124 name on the board, stolen at the 237th overall pick.
Green has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 26 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Somehow Malaki Starks was still sitting there in Round 2, Pick 24, and they pounced on premier safety value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Tate Ratledge in No. 58, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tyler Warren in pick 80 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A running back of that caliber at the 147th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Sonny Styles in slot 149 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They talked themselves into Taylen Green at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Ja'Quinden Jackson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jeffrey Bassa at slot 237 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Bryce Foster reach No. 246 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
