Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Cam Skattebo got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at slot 202. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Reaching for Thornton Jr. left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get an island corner, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy little value on Tyleik Williams in Round 2, Pick 27, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid a round early for Charles Grant in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick No. 146 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Cam Skattebo was still sitting there in No. 202, and they pounced on premier running back value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach for Nick Nash in the 235th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jordan Hancock in the 246th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
