The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Emeka Egbuka at pick No. 36. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Troy Fautanu went about where he belonged in slot 37. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 4: Kingsley Suamataia for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They went early on Tommy Eichenberg in No. 100, and the value did not follow. A minor itch, scratched.
Luke Lachey in the 104th pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No edge and no loss on Nehemiah Pritchett in the 141st overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Lathan Ransom at pick 182 is the proof. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Steve Linton is a better player than Round 7, Pick 5 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
