The Giants went off the board in a big way for Devin Culp, 85 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
On value alone, James makes the weekend a net positive. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The Giants paired the rookies with proven help, Jordan Love leading the way.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chop Robinson at the Round 2 slot is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Javon Bullard at the 47th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid a round early for Blake Corum in pick 70, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
DJ James in slot 107 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They read the board right and Trevor Keegan was the payoff at No. 161. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Sataoa Laumea in Round 5, Pick 36, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Jefferson at pick 183 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jha'Quan Jackson in Round 6, Pick 27 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nice patience on Trente Jones, who had no business lasting to the 210th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Devin Culp well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Evan Williams at slot 240 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nothing to complain about; Keaton Bills went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
