Somebody took the Vikings to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Put together, it is a D.
They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 15th overall pick they get juice off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 20th pick they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
Payton Wilson at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 49 with a little surplus value in J.J. McCarthy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Zak Zinter in Round 4, Pick 9, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Isaiah Adams in slot 130 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Brennan Jackson at No. 156 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dillon Johnson in pick No. 166 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Khristian Boyd. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Tahj Washington at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
