Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Vikings came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
That Greenfield pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
The Vikings clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 26 they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
They took Chris Braswell at par in Round 2, Pick 10, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Braden Fiske at the 57th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Payton Wilson still on the board at the 62nd pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tyrone Tracy Jr. in pick No. 128. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jarrian Jones at Round 5, Pick 15 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Value with a capital V on Tykee Smith in No. 156, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Javion Cohen in slot 166; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Sione Vaki at pick No. 176 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Joe Milton III enough to skip the value, taking him in the 187th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on Tyrice Knight, who had no business lasting to the Round 7 slot. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Garret Greenfield at pick 246 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
