The Cowboys torched the value chart for Jayson Jones, taking him 46 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The Stogner pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a matchup problem out wide, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 62; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A slide stopped in No. 114, with Blake Fisher worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Donovan Edwards slipping to slot 116 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on James Williams. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Darius Robinson in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They let Christian Jones come to them and pounced at the Round 6 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Austin Stogner all the way to the 212th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
A wild overpay on Jayson Jones in pick 251, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
