Hard to follow the map here. The Packers bypassed edge rusher, quarterback and other spots to take Javon Solomon at pick 92, a spot they had covered.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Corley. The Solomon pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Tyler Nubin in Round 1, Pick 29; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ennis Rakestraw Jr.. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kiran Amegadjie in the 57th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Malachi Corley is a better player than slot 88 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Javon Solomon at OLB-EDGE with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open.
Cedric Gray at the 125th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Johnny Dixon in No. 129 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Beaux Limmer at Round 4, Pick 35 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
