You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Jonah Monheim in No. 125.
On value alone, Ersery makes the weekend a net positive. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 1 slot with a little surplus value in Princely Umanmielen. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy little value on Shavon Revel Jr. in the 55th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Aireontae Ersery at No. 99 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Benjamin Morrison at the 114th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jonah Monheim this early at pick No. 125. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Aeneas Peebles at pick 160 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Kurtis Rourke at par in slot 197, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They jumped the gun on Oronde Gadsden II, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
