The Commanders did not so much draft Oluwafemi Oladejo as overpay for him, 93 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
Gordon II falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 31 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
You do not let a linebacker like Jihaad Campbell reach pick No. 61 and blink. They did not. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Azareye'h Thomas in pick 79. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Anthony Belton in the 95th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Oluwafemi Oladejo at the 148th pick, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A big swing on Jalen Travis at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Ollie Gordon II was still sitting there in the 238th overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Akili Arnold here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
