The Commanders did not so much draft Jalen Travis as overpay for him, 52 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
They banked enough surplus on Brown to cover a lot of smaller sins. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
So much rides on Nic Scourton that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 30 they get a problem off the edge. A real need, handled.
TreVeyon Henderson at the 61st overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Savion Williams. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Fair-plus on Denzel Burke, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Anthony Belton in the 132nd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value with a capital V on Jeffrey Bassa in pick 148, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jalen Travis this early at pick No. 238. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Sam Brown all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
