The Jared Wiley selection is the head-turner. The Chiefs reached 33 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Landing Williams that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get juice off the edge. A real need, handled.
The board had Ricky Pearsall higher than Round 2, Pick 32, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dominick Puni at No. 82 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Xavier Legette at pick No. 95 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javon Foster. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Jaylin Simpson in pick 132, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid a round early for Khristian Boyd in Round 5, Pick 23, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Jared Wiley at the 173rd pick, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Evan Williams was still sitting there in pick No. 252, and they pounced on premier safety value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
