The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Kevin Winston Jr., the No. 92 name on the board, in Round 5, Pick 13.

Williams has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The phones were where this weekend was really won.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Jahdae Barron · CB · rank 14
In pick 12 they get an island corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Omarion Hampton · RB · rank 19
Omarion Hampton in the 76th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
R4.15 · Pick 116 · Barrett Carter · LB · rank 82
Barrett Carter in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.11 · Pick 148 · Jake Majors · C · rank 93
Jake Majors in pick No. 148 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.13 · Pick 150 · Kevin Winston Jr. · S · rank 92
Kevin Winston Jr. at No. 150 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R5.31 · Pick 168 · Chris Paul Jr. · LB · rank 117
Taking Chris Paul Jr. in slot 168 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Simeon Barrow Jr. · DL · rank 171
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Simeon Barrow Jr.. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.34 · Pick 171 · Kobe Hudson · WR · rank 191
They talked themselves into Kobe Hudson at the 171st pick, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.12 · Pick 187 · Miles Frazier · OG · rank 208
Miles Frazier at slot 187 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · PJ Williams · OT · rank 259
PJ Williams in pick 209 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Thor Griffith · DL · rank 275
Thor Griffith in the 247th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
