Washington Commanders

The Commanders drew a line under the quarterback search with Daniels: A-.

by TFCart · 2024 NFL Draft · 11 picks · 5 steals · 0 reaches

Future A+

Start where it matters. The Commanders took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Orhorhoro.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

In the end it comes back to Jayden Daniels, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In No. 3 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Ladd McConkey · WR · rank 34
Ladd McConkey at pick No. 38 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Ja'Tavion Sanders · TE · rank 36
Good price on Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick 40, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Xavier Worthy · WR · rank 67
No drama and no debate, Xavier Worthy went about where he belonged in the 67th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Ruke Orhorhoro · DT · rank 66
The board fumbled Ruke Orhorhoro all the way to Round 3, Pick 37, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Caelen Carson · CB · rank 97
Caelen Carson is a better player than the 108th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Josh Newton · CB · rank 122
Josh Newton slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.31 · Pick 167 · Walter Rouse · OT · rank 163
A clean, defensible pick in slot 167 with a little surplus value in Walter Rouse. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Layden Robinson · OG · rank 176
A reasonable price with a little left over, Layden Robinson in pick No. 179. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Trente Jones · OT · rank 194
Steal is underselling it; Trente Jones at Round 7, Pick 2 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 197
Circle this one: Curtis Jacobs at the 230th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
