The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Roger Rosengarten, the No. 146 name on the board, sitting there at slot 168 like a gift left on the doorstep.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. With quarterback and interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
Brian Thomas Jr. in Round 1, Pick 25 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They did well to land Darius Robinson in pick 42, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Javon Bullard at No. 58 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Blake Corum at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Dominick Puni at pick No. 91, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Cole Bishop while clear needs at quarterback and interior defensive lineman sat open.
Cedric Gray in the 125th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jarrian Jones is a better player than the 166th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Roger Rosengarten all the way to pick 168, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Jared Wiley went about where he belonged in No. 201. A need, and now a little less of one.
A quiet steal in slot 219: Daijun Edwards for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Trevin Wallace slipping to the 245th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ryan Watts. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
