The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Every board in the league had Jordan lower, and that gap is the story. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Suamataia pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 8 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Patrick Paul in the 45th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A big swing on Ja'Lynn Polk at slot 50, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached into another round for Xavier Legette, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Kingsley Suamataia graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
A tidy little value on Chau Smith-Wade in Round 4, Pick 36, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at No. 182 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached a country mile for Jawhar Jordan at the 229th pick, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
