After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Reed reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Oladapo. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Troy Fautanu slid further than he should have, and pick No. 34 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Xavier Worthy at the 68th overall pick is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Somehow Marshawn Kneeland was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 3, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Josh Newton come to them and pounced at No. 137. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board fumbled Kitan Oladapo all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid up for Jared Wiley at slot 193 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Austin Reed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
