Start where it matters. The Commanders took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. However the rest shakes out, Brade at that price is a win they earned. Every board in the league had Robinson lower, and that gap is the story.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.2
· Pick 2
· Jayden Daniels
· QB
· rank 8
In pick 2 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.4
· Pick 36
· Kris Jenkins
· DL-EDGE
· rank 44
They went early on Kris Jenkins in No. 36, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.8
· Pick 40
· Jackson Powers-Johnson
· C
· rank 51
They jumped the gun on Jackson Powers-Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.3
· Pick 67
· Cooper Beebe
· OG
· rank 78
Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.37
· Pick 100
· Darius Robinson
· DL-EDGE
· rank 121
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Darius Robinson well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.23
· Pick 123
· Jaheim Bell
· TE
· rank 140
They paid up for Jaheim Bell at Round 4, Pick 23 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.27
· Pick 127
· Beau Brade
· S
· rank 110
Beau Brade slid further than he should have, and pick No. 127 is lovely value for the safety. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.5
· Pick 141
· Keith Randolph Jr.
· DL-EDGE
· rank 154
The board had cheaper options than Keith Randolph Jr. at the 141st overall pick, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.6
· Pick 181
· Julian Pearl
· OT
· rank 185
They took Julian Pearl at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.3
· Pick 223
· Jalen Green
· S
· rank 212
Value with a capital V on Jalen Green in No. 223, a genuine coup. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
