The war room fell hard for Jordan Toles, and it showed at pick 247: 55 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.

A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Mahogany to cover a lot of smaller sins.

The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 27
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 48
They paid up for J.J. McCarthy at the 40th pick when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 55
Jackson Powers-Johnson at No. 56 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 80
They paid a round early for Junior Colson in slot 67, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 82
Cooper Beebe in the 68th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 74
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brenden Rice. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 96
They took Bucky Irving at par in Round 3, Pick 27, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 84
A quiet steal in slot 100: Christian Mahogany for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 138
Jordan Travis at pick 126 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 133
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at No. 127 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 185
A conviction pick on Jaylan Ford at pick No. 174 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Grayson Murphy · DL-EDGE · rank 175
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 6 slot with a little surplus value in Grayson Murphy. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 233
A wild overpay on Jase McClellan in the 212th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.19 · Pick 239 · Marcus Harris · DL-EDGE · rank 257
A real head-scratcher, Marcus Harris in the 239th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Jalen Green · S · rank 231
Jalen Green slipping to No. 245 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.27 · Pick 247 · Jordan Toles · S · rank 302
Jordan Toles at pick No. 247 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
