After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The Sinnott pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Getting Travis where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A wild overpay on Patrick Paul in the 38th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached a country mile for Ja'Lynn Polk at slot 53, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Xavier Legette at pick No. 60 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Sedrick Van Pran at the 68th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Ben Sinnott in pick 98 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Cam Hart in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid up for Roger Rosengarten at No. 136 when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kitan Oladapo in the 139th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jordan Travis slid further than he should have, and pick 173 is lovely value for the quarterback. The roster fit checks out.
Elijah Jones at No. 182 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They jumped the gun on Zion Tupuola-Fetui, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Frank Gore Jr. in slot 229, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nothing to complain about; Brevyn Spann-Ford went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
