The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
Holker has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is McCaffrey.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Kool-Aid McKinstry is a better player than the 34th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board had Malachi Corley higher than slot 68, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dominick Puni at No. 104 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dallin Holker at pick 136 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy bit of business in the 182nd pick, where Luke McCaffrey graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Josh Proctor at Round 7, Pick 9. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
