Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Chiefs spent the 159th pick on Ty'Ron Hopper, a name most had 22 spots down the list. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Bullock to cover a lot of smaller sins.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kiran Amegadjie. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Calen Bullock in the 96th overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jarrian Jones at Round 5, Pick 3 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Value said wait; Ty'Ron Hopper in No. 159 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid up for Jordan Jefferson at pick 173 when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
