The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jarrian Jones, the No. 136 name on the board, in pick No. 180.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Laiatu Latu in the 34th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kiran Amegadjie. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Brenden Rice at Round 4, Pick 3 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Caelen Carson at pick 137 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
No edge and no loss on Joe Milton III in slot 193; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jordan Magee at No. 231. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
