The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Johnson. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. They will need Trice to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
In the end it comes back to Jayden Daniels, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
A tidy bit of business in No. 36, where Troy Fautanu graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tyler Guyton in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They jumped the gun on Bralen Trice, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kingsley Suamataia in slot 67 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Austin Booker at pick No. 78 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Caelen Carson in the 100th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tommy Eichenberg at the 139th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
They liked Jared Wiley enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 152. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cornelius Johnson in slot 222 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
